Jean-Paul Demoule

Jean-Paul Demoule is professor of later European prehistory at Paris 1 University (Panthéon-Sorbonne) and member of the Institut Universitaire de France. His research has focused on the neolithization of Europe, Iron Age society, and the history of archaeology and its social role, as well as on the construction of ideologies and the "Indo-European problem".  Professor Demoule is an expert in rescue archaeology, and has contributed to the drafting of rescue archaeology law in France and the establishment of the Institut national de recherches archéologiques préventives (Inrap),  serving as president of Inrap from 2001 to 2008. He has excavated in Greece in Bulgaria, and as part of the regional rescue project in the Aisne valley.
